News About Men's Hair Loss

--September 2, 2009--Medically, the situation of uncontrollable of hair fall resulting in deserted areas devoid of hair on the skull is known as baldness or Alopecia. The cause of male baldness is not completely known. It is believed to be a combination of hormones and genetics. The hormones that were once so active during puberty in assisting with hair growth can also be the ones that will affect it during the onset of male baldness.

One of the main factors involved is genetics and is often refereed to as Male Pattern Baldness or Androgenetic Alopecia. This is passed down from generation to generation and if the male members of your immediate family are thinning around the crown area there is a good chance it will happen to you too.

There is also a hormone that is involved in causing hair loss called Dihydrotestostrone (DHT) and this hormone is derived from androgen. Androgen circulates through the bloodstream and is converted to DHT by an enzyme. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors, causing the follicles to grow thinner and thinner hairs until nothing re-grows and the follicles eventually shrink and wither away.

In the past, plugs of scalp were transplanted. These gave a very unnatural appearance. It is now possible to move single hair follicles from the sides of the head and place them into the bald area creating a very natural look.

The most common Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait called Androgenetic Alopecia. It is inherited through your family. (DHT) dihydrotestostrone is derived from androgen, a male hormone.

When the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind the hair follicle receptors, causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing grows, and the follicles eventually wither away.
